Austin Police buying Guns with Groceries

The Austin Police Department and the Greater Austin Crime Commission have teamed up to get guns off the streets with an innovative program called “Guns 4 Groceries”.

The Austin Police Department will be “buying back” weapons, guns, fake guns, BB guns, air-soft guns and pellet guns from residents with groceries.

Turn in a BB gun or air gun and get $10 grocery certificate. Handguns and rifles get $100, and assault rifles receive $200 in grocery certificates. (No questions asked.)

All guns must be unloaded and the ammunition must be packaged in a separate bag.

The Gun 4 Groceries program starts on June 5th, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Austin Cornerstone Church at 1101 Reinli Street.
