Wooldridge Elementary School Community Garden
Wooldridge Elementary received a grant recently to promote community health and prevent childhood obesity. Through this grant, the school will receive updated walking trails and plant a community garden. We need volunteers who are knowledgable about vegegtable gardens.
We will have our first garden workday on Saturday May 21, 2011 from 8am to 11am at 1412 Norseman Terrace. Parents and neighbors will be replenishing the soil and planting a summer crop of vegetables in the existing beds at the back of the school. If you can’t participate this time but want to volunteer later we will have another event in August. We will be assembling additional raised beds and planting a new fall crop. If you are interested in supporting this worthwhile project in any way please contact Ellen Martin at ellenemartin@gmail.com or by phone 923-1138.

Book Club – A Short History of the Club
At the founding meeting of the group in the summer of 2004, some ground rules were established:
First, we would meet only every five or six weeks and read only books that are under 400 pages. This would allow time for other reading without having to feel that the book club was dominating our lives.
Second, we would select titles that are owned in sufficient quantity by the library system so that we would not have to buy the books.
Last, we agreed to read selections that would introduce us to cultures or geographical areas that are unfamiliar to us. We have read a mixture of fiction and non-fiction, and our selections have been set in India, China, Australia, France, Botswana, New York, Puerto Rico, the Arizona/Mexico border, Alabama, South Africa, Antarctica, Afghanistan, Utah, Rwanda, and Haiti, just to name a few. Something of a world tour!
